PSV Eindhoven - Ajax Amsterdam... what will it be?!
On the 23th of march Ajax Amsterdam playes an important match, in Eindhoven against PSV.
As you know, Ajax is now playing quite well in the Champions League; they made a great impression on many people.
But in the Dutch competition PSV is leading 7(!!!) points ahead of Ajax, and it seems that PSV Eindhoven will be the new champion.
Who will win this match... PSV or Ajax?!
I think PSV wins, 3-1 and PSV-striker Mateja Kezman will score at least twice...

match preview!
Match : PSV - Ajax
Date : 23 - 03 - 2003
Time : 13.00
Stadium : Philips Stadion
Location : Eindhoven
On Sunday afternoon PSV will play hosts to Ajax in the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven for their Holland Casino premier league fixture number 25. PSV have succeeded in notching 23 victories in the previous 46 games. Eleven times the two sides drew and 23 times Ajax went home, having collected all three points. PSV scored as many as 92 goals in those 46 ties and had to concede 65 goals.
Ajax will travel to Eindhoven on Sunday, knowing they have reached the Champions League quarter finals. The Amsterdam side have not been able to accomplish this feat since 1997 and therefore their performance can be qualified as fantastic. This achievement will undoubtedly motivate the young players of Ronald Koeman and may give them extra strength in Sunday’s clash, in spite of the fact that they have played one more match this week than their Eindhoven rivals.
It has been evident for quite some time that one of the three top clubs will be crowned as champions of Holland at the end of the current campaign. PSV have taken a seven point lead over “number 2” Ajax. The lead over “number 3” Feyenoord is even larger: eleven points. Feyenoord, on their turn, stay as many as twelve points clear of “number 4” RKC Waalwijk. So the conclusion we can draw is obvious: PSV will go out of their way to maintain or preferably extend their lead in points over Ajax. The Amsterdam team is being chased by Feyenoord and is not inclined to give the Rotterdam side any hopes by suffering a defeat.
It is some time ago that Ajax managed to clinch a victory over PSV in Eindhoven. That was on 23 October 1994, when Ajax boss Louis van Gaal saw his side gain a 1-4 victory. Last year the two teams were well-matched. Ajax took the lead on 24 minutes, thanks to a Galasek goal, but Ooijer put both teams on level terms. That game was played on …24 March 2002. It was the 27th game of that competition.
Earlier this season there was no shortage of goals, when PSV grabbed a 2-4 win over Ajax in the Amsterdam ArenA. Robben scored the opening goal, but Van der Meyde restored parity. Kezman put PSV again on top, but Van der Meyde once more equalised. After the break a Vennegoor of Hesselink double ensured a PSV win.
Contrary to last weekend, neither team is troubled by suspended players. Kezman served a one match ban last week and Van der Meyde had been sidelined by a four match suspension.. PSV will be without their injured players Marquinho (knee), Hofland (ankle) and Park (knee). In the Ajax squad Heitinga, Wamberto, Litmanen and goalkeeper Stekelenburg have all sustained injuries and will therefore not make an appearance.
Jan Wegereef is the man in the middle and the other official are his assistants Mr E. Theelen and Mr W. Rutgers and the fourth official Mr P. Oskam. Kick off is at 13.00 hrs local time.

MATCH REPORT!
The Philips stadium was filled to capacity when the Holland Casino premier League numbers one and two in the table kicked off. In the very first minute captain Van Bommel was shown a yellow card for a late tackle on O’Brien. It was a somewhat rash decision by referee Wegereef, because actually nothing much was going on. Bouma created the first danger on 8 minutes, with a free kick that went over the crossbar. Two minutes later right wing defender Trabelsi failed to control a long ball and clumsily tried to save the situation by hacking down Robben. Trabelsi was booked and PSV had won a penalty kick. Kezman converted the spot kick by blasting the ball into the right hand top corner 1-0. Ajax then understandably took control and had most possession of the ball in the first half. Yet PSV created the best chances, but keeper Lobont was not really tested and the PSV forwards did not make the most out of some opportunities. In the 34th minute Bøgelund and Galásek collided. The Danish defender had to leave the pitch, due to an knee injury that he had picked up and Faber came on. Two minutes of injury time were added when Wegereef put an end to the fist half.
© Pics United - Lee, best player on the pitch, celebrates with Robben.
A remarkable substitution took place at the restart: Hiddink had brought on Leandro for Vennegoor of Hesselink. The effect was rather poor, as PSV could not organize their play at all any more. However, the players deserve praise, because they worked hard and did not concede any chance whatsoever. Even when Bouma limped off the pitch with a groin injury, the defence was solid and Ajax could not get through. With Lee carrying on on the right flank, Ooijer and Faber partnering up in the heart of the defence and good old Jan Heintze back as usual in his familiar left back position, PSV simply held on. And things were getting better for PSV on 70 minutes, when Chivu got his second yellow card and consequently his marching orders. He lost his temper and threw the ball into the face of Van Bommel. After PSV had already omitted a few times to kill off the game, they finally succeeded in doing so two minutes into final time. From a Rommedahl cross Kezman tapped the ball home at the near post: 2-0.
So PSV have increased their lead over Ajax to ten points and are well on their way of becoming the champions of Holland.
