It is confirmed! The University of Texas at EI Paso and the EI Paso Patriots announced today their partnership to take to the UTEP Sun Bowl Stadium all the excitement of the 2003 US A-League soccer season.
"It is fantastic for the university and the EI Paso community to have a professional soccer team playing at the UTEP Sun Bowl Stadium" said Carol Roberts-Spence, Director for the Office of Special Events at UTEP. Roberts-Spence also said that this is a major step towards bringing more soccer to our city.
Diana Cervantes, Vice-President for the EI Paso Patriots, said that the 2003 season is a refreshing new start for the team with a new look and feel. "The team is proud to announce the move to a new 52,000 attendance home field," Cervantes said.
With this move, UTEP and the EI Paso patriots seek to promote a soccer culture in our region and help develop the future soccer athletes of tomorrow.
The game schedule starts on April 25 during an inaugural match between the Patriots and the Minnesota Thunder. This year's soccer season includes 28 games, 14 of which will be played at home.
Besides hosting the 2003 A-League season, UTEP and the EI Paso Patriots plan to bring exhibition games, and first division matches bringing teams from all over the world.
