Euh, sans la piste d'athlétisme j'espère ?
Et avec au moins un des pourtours muni d'une tribune ?

J'ai hâte mais sérieusement, j'ai d'énormes craintes en même temps !

Ça vient de CKAC, alors ça peut être n'importe quoi.

Tant qu'à faire un stade, j'espère qu'on va en faire un vrai et comme il faut.

On parle d'un stade de configuration soccer et on se base sur celui de Sherbrooke qui est multisports ? N'importe quoi !

Il y en a des centaines dans le monde, et on prendrait l'exemple de celui de Sherbrooke

C'est tout simple : un stade à l'anglaise, sans piste, avec un toit qui couvre les supporteurs (on élimine la baisse des assistances en raison du mauvais temps, etc.), un bar, une boutique, un local pour les groupes de supporteurs, un petit musée, etc.

A Radio Canada Robert Foisy parlait d,une capacité de 17 000 personne. Le stade serait payé par un partenariat public privé entre la ville de Montréal et Saputo entre autre. Pas de trace du gouvernement provincial la dedans. Le prov. donne 1M$ mais c'est pour l'organisation des mondiaux U20.

J'ose croire qu'on va pas aller construire un truc comme le stade de Sherbrooke juste sur le bord du fleuve. Si l'emplacement est bien celui mentionné par Matt, ça prend un stade fermé, avec tribunes couvertes, rien d'autre.

Imaginez les soirées froides de mai ou de septembre sur le bord de l'eau...

Les joueurs de l'Impact se réjouissent de la construction d'un nouveau stade de soccer à Montréal.

Joey Saputo, le président de l'équipe, devait rencontrer les joueurs mardi soir pour leur donner les détails qui seront dévoilés officiellement mercredi après-midi lors d'une conférence de presse.

Une chose est sûre, le stade doit compter au moins 10 000 places pour accueillir les Championnats du monde juniors en 2007, événement pour lequel le gouvernement du Québec contribuera environ un million de dollars (et non pas pour le stade).

L'entraîneur-chef Nick De Santis a confirmé que le stade contiendra beaucoup plus que les 9 300 places du Complexe Claude-Robillard, domicile actuel de l'Impact.

« On peut se réjouir de ça, a dit le milieu de terrain Patrick Leduc. C'est une autre source de motivation pour tous les joueurs de l'équipe. Ça nous encourage à continuer pour encore quelques années. »

Son coéquipier Mauro Biello abonde dans le même sens. « Dans une équipe de soccer, on aime une atmosphère chaleureuse dans un stade. Avec un stade conçu pour le soccer, c'est sûr que les joueurs seront contents. »

Beaucoup plus que 9 300 places. 13 000 c'est beaucoup plus? Pour moi, beaucoup plus, c'est au moins 15 000...

Montreal is getting a new downtown stadium, and it's not to lure Major League Baseball back to the city.

This afternoon, Saputo Inc. and the city of Montreal will jointly announce plans to build a 10,000-seat soccer stadium in the Technoparc, near the St. Lawrence River waterfront.

The cost of the new stadium, which is expected to be ready in 2007, hasn't been revealed, but a good guess is between $5 million and $10 million. A source at city hall said yesterday the stadium idea "was not part of the city's master plan" to develop the waterfront area.

"It will be soccer specific and be of natural grass," another source close to the project told The Gazette. "No one has talked about it being for (minor-league) baseball, too."

Joey Saputo, president of the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer Leagues First Division, which plays at Claude Robillard Stadium, is spearheading the project. Saputo will be joined at today's news conference by Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay, Sud-Ouest borough mayor Jacqueline Montpetit and Lino Saputo, chairperson of the board of Saputo Inc.

Joey Saputo was unavailable for comment yesterday, but in an interview with The Gazette last week, he said: "If I want to hit my goal of having 12,000 fans per game, I have to look at alternatives. I'd like to have a stadium solely dedicated to soccer and to give fans access to a lot of good things they don't have today."

Saputo Inc. is expected to bear at least half, if not most, of the building cost. Some reports suggest seating eventually could be increased to 17,000.

Today's announcement will come minutes after a news conference in Toronto, where Soccer Canada is expected to select Montreal as one of six Canadian cities to host games for the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Championship.

The stadium will be located near the former Autostade, a 33,000-seat stadium built for Expo 67. The Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League played at the Autostade from 1968 to 1971, and again from 1973 to 1976.

The venue played host to the 1969 Grey Cup, when the Ottawa Rough Riders defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders 29-11.

The Autostade had been expected to be home to the Montreal Expos when they joined Major League Baseball in 1969 but the team played at Jarry Park instead before moving to Olympic Stadium in 1977.

The Autostade was abandoned - and later demolished - following the Als' move to the Big O in 1976. It often was criticized as a cold and windy venue because of its proximity to the river.

Saputo is the largest dairy processor in Canada and one of the largest cheese producers in North America. Financial results for the third quarter of 2005 included net earnings of $58.3 million, up 16.6 per cent for the year-earlier period.

"It is feasible, absolutely, for Saputo (to build a stadium) on its own," Joey Saputo, son of Saputo chairperson, Lino Saputo, said last week. "But getting help, including from the city, is important to continuing to grow the sport.

"We've proven over the last couple of years that soccer needs a venue to call its own," Saputo added. "There are 160,000 kids playing (in Quebec) - 100,000 playing within a one-hour radius of Montreal - but right now we don't have the infrastructure to continue the growth.

"The time is ripe to do something to give the growing population the opportunity not only to come and watch a professional game, or a Canadian championship, but also to give young players in the community the opportunity to develop, train and play in a proper facility."

The Impact, the reigning USL First Division champion, has played at the city-operated Claude Robillard Stadium since its inaugural season in 1994.

The Impact had the second-best attendance in the league last season, averaging 9,279 per game in an 8,000-seat stadium. The overflow crowd sat on the grass between the field and the stands.

Proof that the franchise had outgrown its home was evident when 13,648 watched the Impact's 2-0 victory over Seattle in the league championship game last Sept. 18.

Le Journal de Montréal parle d'un COMPLEXE de soccer avec un stade de 12500 places (qui pourrait passer à + de 16000). Il y aurait d'autres terrains aux abords du stade, dont deux à surface synthétique.

Sur un terrain en fieldturf comme à Lachine, vous pouvez mettre une bulle pour y jouer à l'hiver...Plus que 2h30 à attendre et on sera fixé...

En effet, j'ai justement joue dans cette bulle a Lachine durant l'hiver, et a part le fait que c'etait un peu mal chauffe, c'etait tres correct.

De plus, qui dit qu'ils ne feront pas construire un terrain couvert en marge du stade principal...

Le stade ne servira qu'à l'Impact. L'organisation des Alouettes, elle aussi aux prises avec des problèmes d'espace, a confirmé hier qu'elle ne prenait pas part à ce projet. Pour permettre aux amateurs de se rendre sur les lieux, le projet comporterait un stationnement de 4000 places et un service de navettes à partir du métro de Montréal.

New Stadium To Be Ready For 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship

Ottawa, Ontario - The Canadian Soccer Association reacted with great
enthusiasm and expressed their delight with the news out of Montreal
today that the Saputo family will build a privately-funded 13,500-seat
soccer specific stadium in Montreal. The new facility will be used as one
of the host sites for the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007. The
stadium will also be the future home of the defending A-League champion
Montreal Impact who now play in the USL First Division.

"On behalf of the Canadian Soccer Association, I would like to salute
the Saputo family on the construction of a new soccer stadium in the
City of Montreal," said CSA President Andy Sharpe. "The importance of
improving and adding to the soccer facilities across Canada is essential to
encourage and maintain the growth of our sport in our country and I
commend the Impact and their partners for this initiative."

I look forward to the day when we can see international games being
played at this new facility. The legacy of the FIFA World Youth
Championship 2007 has already begun with the construction of this stadium and we
hope to see more facilities being built in the near future. This is a
