FC United are given an English non-league placement

MANCHESTER, June 20 (SW) – FC United of Manchester – a club formed by Manchester United fans disgruntled at Malcolm Glazer’s takeover bid – has been given an English non-league berth.

FC United was set up by a group of around 3000 Man United fans who were less than happy about the takeover of their club by the American magnate. The club applied for non-league club status and the news came through on Monday that this has been granted.

They are due to play in the North West Counties League next season and will play their games at Droylsden FC’s Butcher’s Arms Ground, subject to approval by the local authorities.

Droylsden owner and manager, Dave Pace, is a huge United fan and is himself unhappy with Glazer. He was more than happy to allow the new club to play at the stadium and help his fellow Red Devils fans.

"I've done everything I can and it looks like they are going to be playing at our ground,” Pace told BBC Sport.

"It's hard to say how it will go. The fans feel like they want to do something to counteract Glazer and it could work.

"It's a stand and all credit to them. It is hard to run a club - and they will find that out - but they are determined and they seem to have backing from quite a few, so good luck to them.

"I'm helping them all I can and will continue to do so.

"The managers they are talking to have a good idea of the players at this level and who they want to get hold of.

"If they struggle to get players I'll probably lend them a couple of mine."

With the Butcher’s Arms Ground having a maximum capacity of 3000, then it is highly conceivable that each week the team could pull in sell-out crowds for their games.

FC United will play their first game in mid-July with their first league match kicking off on August 13th.

Le milliardaire américain Malcolm Glazer a annoncé aujourd'hui qu'il était désormais propriétaire à 98 % du Manchester United FC. Il a donc franchi le seuil au-delà duquel il est autorisé à acheter le reste des actions.

Rachat d'office
Glazer a déclaré que sa part du club avait dépassé le chiffre clé de 97,6 % nécessaire pour racheter d'office les actions restantes. Le 14 juin, le milliardaire avait révélé qu'il était propriétaire de 97,3 % du club de Premiership.

Deux ans de lutte
Le magnat du sport a pris le contrôle de Manchester United le mois dernier après avoir bataillé pendant deux ans avec son offre de rachat à 300 pence par action. La valeur du club 15 fois champion d'Angleterre était alors passée à 796 £ (soit environ 1,2 milliard d'euros).

Contrôle total
La part de Glazer dans le club d'Old Trafford a rapidement dépassé les 75 %, ce qui lui a donné une totale mainmise sur Manchester United. Le milliardaire a ainsi acquis le droit de radier les actions du registre de la bourse. L'Américain a lancé son offre formelle de racheter la totalité des titres du club lorsque sa part a atteint les 75,7 %.
