YALLOP ANNOUNCES ROSTER FOR WALES FRIENDLY ON MAY 30
Ottawa, Ontario - Canadian Men’s World Cup Team head coach Frank Yallop today named an 18-player roster for the upcoming international friendly against Wales in Wrexham, Wales on May, 30, 2004. The kickoff is 2:30 p.m. local time.
The squad will begin to assemble on May 25 with European-based players joining the group on May 26. The majority of the team will return to Canada on May 31st.
Yallop will use the friendly to make some final decisions on the players who will take part in an exhibition game against Yallop’s former team, the San Jose Earthquakes (June 5 in San Jose, California) and the World Cup Qualifying series against Belize on June 13 and 16 in Kingston, Ontario.
The only newcomer to the squad is 22-year-old striker Olivier Occean who plays with Odd Grenland in Norway and who was drafted by the New York/NJ MetroStars. Occean was part of the 2003 Canadian Olympic Team earning one cap.
"This camp and game against a strong Welsh side will be the perfect preparation and assessment opportunity as we put the finishing touches on the team which will compete against Belize in Kingston," said Yallop. "There are still one or two players not on the Wales game roster who could be involved against San Jose or Belize."
