Une Ligue des champions CONCACAF ?

Une info lue sur le forum bigsoccer, à l'occasion d'un entretien avec Don Garber, commissaire de la MLS:
What information can you provide in regards to the MFL/MLS tournament (CONCACAF Champions League?) next summer?
COMMISSIONER ANSWER: Our plan is to announce the proposed competition between MLS and Mexican First Division clubs by the end of the year. We anticipate that the competition will feature MLS versus Mexican First Division clubs in a European Champions League format. Games are likely to take place mid-week with a small rollout in 2007 and a full tournament in 2008 and beyond. . Like most of you, we want to see our clubs continue to raise their level of play. This competition, along with the CONCACAF Champions Cup, provides another means for clubs to test themselves against regional competition.

Une bonne nouvelle donc, même si on peut regretter que seuls deux pays soient concernés.

Ah oui effectivement, le TFC pourrait participer à l'édition 2008.
Cela dit il faudrait réussir une bonne saison dès l'an prochain, ce qui ne sera pas facile à mon avis (voir les résultats de Chivas USA et Salt Lake pour leurs débuts).

Plus de précisions sur cette future compétition:
It was published yesterday in LA opinion, the participants will go thru INVITATION, confirmed from Mexico: Chivas, Cruz Azul, Morelia and Club America. From the MLS Chivas USA, Galaxy, the champ and sub.
Due to the amount of sponsors, the prize will be OVER 1 million bucks, and will be play only in the USA, not home-and-away as previously posted, to ensure a box office bonanza. The sport prize is being negotiated as we write, either Mexico 3rd spot to Copa Libertadores; or bribe a venezuelan or bolivian team for their spot at the Libertadores repechage (most likely the later).

Ceci n'est pas la Champions' Cup, c'est un tournoi d'exhibition.

PR a terminé second de son groupe.

Les matches étaient tous disputés au Ramon Loubriel.
Les 4 demi-finalistes (haitien, jamaïcain et 2 T&T) s'affronteront pour une place en quarts de la CCC contre Chivas (Mex).

Huit équipes réparties en deux groupes, seulement des matchs allers suivis de demi-finales et finale. La 1ère édition aura lieu de fin juillet à fin août.

C'est un tournoi sur invitation et même avant Beckham, c'était connu que le Galaxy, en tant qu'équipe la plus populaire et avec la population mexicaine locale, allait y participer.
Je le réitère, ce tournoi "compétitif" est, comme on dit chez nous:

Je suis étonné de ne pas voir Chivas LA
Sinon... le nord des Etats-Unis est vraiment très mal représenté...
Je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais ça ne me surprend pas

Quelle bande de grincheux.
Bon, le système d'invitation ne fonctionnera que pour la 1ère année, ensuite les clubs y participeront en fonction de leurs résultats.
D'autre part il est possible qu'il y ait extension à d'autres pays, lorsque la CONCACAF acceptera de mettre en place une Ligue des champions calquée sur ce qui se fait dans les autres zones.
