05.05.04 Aassiden-Odd /FA-cup 1st round

Message par daff »

The first round of the Fotball Association Cup is tomorrow, Wednesday. Odd Grenland is the most winning team in the national cup in Norway with 12 victories, and we are really hoping for a final in November this year.

We will play against Aassiden, a 3rd division team (4th, if you count Premier League as number 1). We also met them in 2002 were we won 0-9 in first round. That year we lost for Valerenga in the final.

This match should be a match with alot of goals, and alot of goals from Ollie. Wish us luck and a good trip to Aassiden. I really like the first rounds of the FA-cup were we travel to all kind of exotic places :)

A side note: How is the national cup in Canada, is it big? Or are you just having a play-off like the NFL/NHL system?

The cup is pretty special and big in Norway. Its similar to the FA-cup in England. The cup in Norway and England is pretty unique in Europe, other countries are trying to do the same, but not with the same result.

So this is special for us, and ofcourse, important to win!

We don't have a true national cup here in Canada. We have an open cup for senior teams but a-league clubs don't play in it.
The canadian fans (The Voyageurs) have in place the Voyageurs cup which is a fan awarded trophy to the best pro team in Canada given after head-to-head games for canadian teams in the A-League. Montreal has won the first two editions.

It's a debat here in Canada that the canadian soccer association should step up and start a real national cup. I guess we're still missing the structures for football in this country.

We only have playoffs but that's because the Canadian Soccer Association is too lazy/disorganized to organize a Cup. The American A-League teams play in the US Open Cup.

There is the fan-organized Voyageurs Cup to crown an unofficial Canadian champion, but that's more of a mini-league within the A-League calendar. http://www.voyageurscup.ca.

I agree with Daniel, the CSA is too lazy to focus on the pro game. They are just happy to see that we have more soccer players registered in this country compared to hockey players...
