NGON COMING BACK TO TORONTO!



February 5, 2004 (TORONTO, ON) – The Toronto Lynx added some offensive punch to their lineup today, signing Ali Ngon for the 2004 season. Ngon led the club in goals and points in 2003, netting 6 goals and adding 2 assists in 21 games for the Lynx before being traded to the Montreal Impact midway through the campaign last season. The Montreal native and former U20 Canadian National Team member added 1 assist for the Impact, giving him a career high 15 points on the season. His previous season best was his rookie year with the Impact where he managed 14 points. “I am very excited to be back with the Lynx for the 2004 season. I was treated very well during my time in Toronto and am happy to be coming back,” says Ngon. “I am looking forward to working with Duncan (Wilde, new Lynx head coach) and I hope to contribute in a very significant way in 2004.”



Lynx head coach, Duncan Wilde, states, “I’m delighted that Ali has decided to rejoin us for 2004. I have assured him that he is in my plans and that I will be doing all I can to provide the service for him to do his job…score goals. As I analyzed the 2003 games, it was apparent that he became isolated in the front line. I fully intend to keep him busier this coming season. I have every confidence in his ability and welcome him back to the team”.



DI PLACIDO RESIGNS WITH LYNX



The Toronto Lynx reigning Best Offensive Player, David Di Placido, has also resigned with the Lynx for the 2004 season. After a breakout year in 2003, which saw the midfielder record career highs in games and minutes played, Di Placido will be looked to for more of his smooth play and offensive flare this season. The Newmarket native and product of the Woodbridge Strikers and Cardinal Carter High School ranks in the Lynx all-time top ten leaders in goals, assists, points, games and minutes played and his 7 seasons with the club give him the longest tenure of any player. Di Placido is currently on loan with the Philadelphia Kixx of the MISL and will join the Lynx for the preseason after receiving his international clearance. “I’m happy to be back with the Lynx. With a new head coach and some new faces 2004 looks very promising”, says DiPlacido. “Personally, I am hoping to build on last year’s performance and have another successful season. Our team goal is obviously to make the playoffs and I am very confident that we will reach that goal in 2004.”



Wilde is also happy to have Di Placido in the mix for 2004. “I am sure everyone realizes by now that I am seriously rebuilding the team for the upcoming season”, Wilde states. “With this in mind it is very important that we hold on to the core Canadian players. I have worked with David over the winter and been very impressed with his commitment to off season training and his desire to play for the Lynx, as we go through this rebuilding process. His obvious ability, experience and understanding of the game will be crucial to the team as we introduce some new talent to freshen things up. I am sure our supporters will be very happy to see him re-sign”.

Je ne crois pas que ça soit un vol de joueur cette fois-ci. Ngon n'avait pas sa place de partant et la compétition même comme substitut s'annonce difficile. De plus, il a végété à l'Impact l'an dernier, ce qui ne lui a sûrement pas plu.

Oui, c'est pas vraiment une perte car on ne sait pas - et on ne saura jamais - ce qu'il aurait pu apporter à l'équipe.
La seule chose que j'espère c'est qu'il va arrêter de marquer des buts importants contre nous

Il n'avait plus de place pour lui à Montréal...Bonne chance quand même.

Une lourde perte (c'est le cas de le dire) potentielle à l'attaque. Même si je souhaitais qu'il reste, c'était très prévisible qu'il décide de quitter pour les raisons déjà mentionnées. Mais je me disais qu'il a peut-être une tête de cochon et qu'il est entêté, de sorte qu'il décide de rester, malgré l'arrivée de Budalic, afin de batailler pour un poste de partant afin de prouver ce qu'il vaut. Mais bon, ceci permettra à Taty de voir plus d'actions. Car il est peu probable que l'on cherche à remplacer Ali. De plus, même si il ne rajeunit pas, Darko n'est certainement pas trop épuisé de la dernière saison. J'espère qu'on va au moins le 'tester' convenablement afin de s'assurer que ce qu'on a vu de lui l'an passé n'était pas réel. Parce que si c'est réel... ben on le surnommera Toto Kolic...
