The man who will lead Canada's bid for a berth in soccer's 2010 World Cup could finally be hired on Saturday.
Canadian Soccer Association's 17-member board of directors meets in Toronto to whittle its shortlist for the coaching vacancy down to one.
Junior national team coach Dale Mitchell and interim senior coach Stephen Hart are candidates. GolTV, however, reported last month that Rene Simoes, a Brazilian who coached Jamaica to the 1998 World Cup, would get the job.
Frank Yallop, who resigned the job last June to join Los Angeles Galaxy, said 103rd-ranked Canada needs more than a dynamic new coach.
"We need to catch up with other teams before we can expect to make a World Cup," Yallop said. "We need games, we need funding and we need to be serious about what we're doing."
