CALGARY AND WINNIPEG WITHDRAW THEIR BID TO HOST THE FIFA WORLD YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP CANADA 2007



Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) today announced that Calgary and Winnipeg have withdrawn their intent to bid to host venues at the FIFA World Youth Championship Canada 2007.



Edmonton and Toronto have already been pre-determined as the two major venues, leaving four venues to be announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2005.



In January, the CSA received 11 letters of intent, from 11 cities across Canada, to bid to co-host the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship.



The remaining nine cities who have submitted letters of intent to host one of the four remaining venues are Hamilton, Laval, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, Sherbrooke, Vancouver, and Victoria.



"The Alberta Soccer Association is disappointed that the Calgary bid will not move forward at this point and time, however looks forward to working closely with the Canadian Soccer Association and key stake holders in the City of Calgary to bring international soccer to their city," said Vern Gerhardt, Executive Director of the Alberta Soccer Association.



"The Manitoba Soccer Association is disappointed in having to withdraw from the bidding process. We wish all of the remaining cities all the very best in securing a site for the FIFA World Youth Championship 2007. It will be a tremendous event," indicated Héctor O. Vergara, MSA Chief Administrative Officer.

Pour Calgary, sans un plan, c'était prévisible.

Pour Winnipeg, c'est plus surprenant en considérant les options qu'ils ont et l'avantage d'être la seule candidate des prairies.

Ça pourrait ouvrir la porte à Sherbrooke.

Les autres villes envisageables sont Victoria (mais peu de chance d'établir qqch de longue durée là-bas), Hamilton et London.

Sur 9 candidats, il reste 4 villes au Québec !
Ca montre que l'intérêt est présent ici

+ 3 en Ontario et 2 et C-B

Théoriquement, une dans chaque province sera prise et une autre dans l'Est

Vraisemblablement : Vancouver, Ottawa, Montréal et ??? Espérons une seconde au Québec. Ce qui nous ferait trois villes très accessibles, et une autre abordable (Toronto).

Je sais deja quand je vais prendre mes vacances en 2007 et pour la premiere fois elles (mes vacances) auront lieu au Canada.

Je vais assister a tous les matches disputes a Montreal et si c'est possible j'irai dans les villes aux alentours. Je sais que le Canada ne jouera pas ici mais it's too bad.
