Koenigstein, Germany (dpa) - Holders Brazil begin the defence of their title with the most expensive team in the history of the World Cup. The 23-man squad has a market value of 410 million euros (528 million dollars), according to figures compiled by Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa
The most expensive player is World Footballer of the Year Ronaldinho, whose contract with Barcelona has a get-out clause with a fixed transfer sum of 125 million euros.
Other high profile players are Ronaldo, Kaka, Adriano and Robinho. Ronaldo's worth is estimated at 30 million euros and Kaka's 35 million euros. Around 5,000 Brazilian footballers play for foreign teams. Some 300 left the country last year to play abroad, according to the Brazilian Football Federation CBF.
