Another loss by Moss. It's going downhill for Bernier's team.

Downhill?? If you were in my shoes, Francois, you would not call this downhill! My feet are numb, tired of climbing this mountain of pain and agony. Give me downhill, please!

But seriously, things are not going our way this season. First half of yesterdays game was a one-way-drive towards the FFK-goal. Still the first half ended 1-1.. FFK scored on a penalty-kick after aprox. 5 minutes, maybe a correct calling from the ref., allthough the Moss defender claims it wasn't, since both players involved held eachother equaly thight by the jersey, but from there on it was MFK for every single dime. Lead by a shining Bernier, they produced lots of good opportunities, but failed to score until the 43' minute. At that time it looked to be Moss' game. Second half were only a couple of minutes old, when a FFK-player was allowed to raid towards the Moss goal, after receiving a pass in a clearly offside position. And we are talking about a couple of metres offside, not inches! Even their third goal was a questionable one, since the scorer clearly held and pushed the Moss defender to the ground pryor to receiving the ball in a "can't miss situation."

Rob Friend played only for the last seven minutes of the game, but Patrice played the whole game through, and was Moss' best player. Not just according to me, but also according the local paper. He was outstanding for long periods of this game. In my oppinion he has grown a lot these last few games. Now he is taking responsibility, showing leadership, and he is more involved when they have free-kicks and corners. Before he always stepped a-side to let others take the kick, but now he's the one they trust to make the serve right.

July 1' the transfer window opens again, and Moss have stated that they are looking for players to strenghten the team offensivly. The coach want the players that are sitting on the bench to be hungry and real challengers for a place in the line-up. More competition, higher temperature, more blood, sweat and tears...

Yeaterdays opponent, FFK, played in the second division last year. They are the arch-rival of Moss, since we are from the same county. It's only a thirty minute drive from Moss to Fredrikstad. FFK were the leading Norwegian team back in the really old days, but haven't been in the topp division since the were relegated in 1984. Their coach, Knut T. Eggen, was coaching for Moss two years ago, and he is the son of more famous Nils Arne Eggen, who also coached Moss back in the 80's, with one premiership gold as result. Nils Arne Eggen is the man who has lead Rosenborg, from Trondheim, to 8 or 9 following seasons in the European Champions League. N.A.Eggen is also famous for his extremly optimistic predections pryor to important CL games against teams like Juventus, Real Madrid AC Milan, etc, etc. In his very broken English he could answer a journalist, asking if he think Rosenborg are capable of winning against Real Madrid, :"Oh, yes. With many, many goals!"

Well, it's about time that the MFK players starts putting their balls back into football. Or else this could end in a real disaster. I have stoped crying myself to sleep at night, and started with some nice, pink pills instead... Just kidding. There ain't no cure for this, other than walk through the storm in the valley of misery and darkness, with my head up high, proud to be a fan of MFK, until I die.

Rating!

Message par Vicenç »

Hi!
I want to know what you think about the rating we can found here :

http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/norsk/1d ... er2840.hbs

It's the rating of the players for each game they play. So it is right? Who made this?
If I understand Patrice Bernier is in 39 position in the league. I think it's no so bad.

Thanks!

Hi!

I tried to reply this last post yesterday, but after writing a long, well formulated answer I experienced some errors on the forum, so I wasn't able to post my great reply.

To the matter concerning ratings of the different players in norwegian soccer I can tell you this: The rating you found, is made by VG, Norway's largest tabloid paper. After each game the player gets a "score" for their performance. The scale is 1-10. 10 is top. I have written a reply on how to read the scale in the topic "Patrice Bernier's season starts this Sunday" which can be found on page 2 of the english speaking forum's index.

Ratings like this must be read with a grain of salt, since players of teams with higher interest of the media often gets better "scores" than players from more low-profile clubs. In Oslo there is a premier division club called Vålerenga. They have the biggest supporter-club, highly profiled players, trainers, board-members and owners, but their result out on the field are often quite weak. But because of the large interest surrounding this soap-opera of a club, they get much publisity, wether they win or lose, and their players will often get higher average "scores" during a season than players from low-profile clubs, even if these clubs have a better season all in all. Vålerenga and Moss have followed eachother up and down between premier and 1.division, through most of the 1990's. And it's obvious that their players get more publicity and better ratings than players from Moss.

Anyway, the papers also keep records of goalscorers, assists, playing-time and cards. But in theory a player can become the top scorer of the league, and still get an average rating indicating that he is made of shit and feathers. So number of scored goals don't effect your rating, which of course would be unfair to defenders and goalkeepers.

In my opinion, Bernier is an even better player than his rating indicates. (39, wasn't it?) The reason for my opinions on this can be read in my pryor reply in this topic. He has grown to be one of the most important players in the 1.division. He had a some what weak start of the season, but now he's getting warm and confident. Rob Friend is more in a down period at the time, after a rather good start of the season.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I understand, Patrice has a more offensive role now than at the beginning of the season. It could explain his success lately. I just hope it will help Moss to get back on the winning track...Rob Friend will be with the national team of Canada for the Gold Cup in mid-July.

That's ok Robban...No, Braz wasn't called by our national team. Mind you, I think that one day, he might get a shot. How's your summer break so far?

Well, the weather has been quite bad the last few days but apart from that everything is OK. Longing for monday when the next game is, looks like all the niggles and small knocks some of our players had will be fine by then.

Good news that Braz will stay in Västerås, he is growing to be one of the key players in the squad. Shame that we missed out on Bernier, looks like our board made a mistake when not signing him.
