Questions to our Scandinavian Friends

Message par Bxl Boy »

Yesterday, the Scandinavian countries have showed their new project. A tournament that would be playes bye the 3 first of the Denish, Swedish and Norwegian championship and where up to 31 fictures could be played. "This tournament will be complementary of the national competitions. It will allow to have more incomes and would contribute to the developpement of the sport, said Olav Boksasp, some important Norwegian sport leader. We hope to begin next fall."
Here, the aim is to thwart climatic problems. Most of european cups games are played in the off-season in Scandinavia.
The Norwegian federation explained that the competition would be organized like this : a first round with three groups (in each one, one team of each country). Number one and two go to the second round, with two group if three. The two group-winners play the final.

That's the information we have. Could you explain us a little bit more about this competition, and how the clubs, the players and other think about it. And, of course, give your opinion :)

We actually don't know more than you. I know that there has been talks, but I believe that's it, just talks. The underlaying reason for having this Scandinavian league, must be that they hope to convince UEFA -the European Football Assosiation, that Scandinavia deserves to be represented in the UEFA Champions League with at least one team. If you look at the system and how it works today, you see Norwegian team Rosenborg, who have participated in the CL for the last 8(?) years, but still have to qualify every year. This year they met Bohemians from Ireland in the first qualifying round, and in the second round they met Deportivo La Coruna, who finished third in the Spanish league last year. First match ended 0-0, second match is to be played this week. So there are some strong forces within Scandinavian football who wants this to change. In Engand, Italy, Germany and Spain, the first two teams in their league are automatically qualified. None of the Scandinavian countries have automatically a team in this tournament, and since there are so much money involved for the participating teams this system is not ment to close the gap between the traditionally "big" countries and "smaller" countries. Unfair, that is, in many peoples oppinion.

And for those who care, I can inform you that Rosenborg lost todays away-game against Deportivo 1-0 and are therefor not qualified for this years Champions League. This ends eight following years of participating in this tournament. And they don't get their hands on aprox.8 million USD.

I'm sorry that I didn't give you a proper report on Bernier and Friend after last game against Sandefjord. I was a bit tired when I came home, and too busy the day after, so..... Well, anyway, it was good to see Friend more inspired than he has been for some time, and it was a nice goal indeed. He worked good and hard this game. Bernier have been better, but that doesn't mean that he played bad, it just wasn't his best game so far. Moss opened the game really bad, and it was deserved when Sandefjord took the lead after 15 minutes. Moss came back with Friend's goal after 30 minutes, and from there on they were the better team. Second half was more or less one-way-drive against the Sandefjord goal. Moss, as usual, should have won this one, but again they fail to score the final goal to get the three points.
