They are useful as friends first--so we can get a team in the MLS--before they can be relevant as enemies. I'm open to other, effective, ideas if this runs against the stream.

They've never been our friends, and they never will be, especially after may 27 when it's finally official.

Mpenza, I was referring to Sabre's note above. Perhaps "it's" above refers not to an announcement of an MLS team in Montreal as I had understood, but to the rivalry between Montreal and Toronto being confirmed at the Impact-Toronto game on May 27th.

I asked about the May 27th date because, as I had understood it, someone seemed convinced that an Montreal ==> MLS announcement was imminent--already accomplished and just waiting for a good opportunity to broadcast the news. If that was the case, we wouldn't need to get organized as supporters to show fan support. But I merely misunderstood, and the need to get organized remains. What's the next step?

My sense of urgency comes from viewing sites other supporter's groups have put together and a strong desire to see the MLS club in Montreal become a reality for the 2009 season. Forget about Toronto, our enemies are Miami, St. Louis, Vegas, NYC, Phoenix, Vancouver...Garber himself if he stands in our way.

We could:
1) Start a petition like Borough Boys have done. The university and CEGEP sports teams and students might be a good place to start something like this. Good idea? Could have 1000 names by May 27th? 5000? 10,000? Have many names could we add on May 27th or at Impact games.
2) Media Campaign. With the media savey Impact fans we have in Montreal, could we string together a cool video about the Impact from existing clips the group has from games, pics, etc., put it on a web-site and get it out to the soccer community in Montreal and abroad? Volunteers?
3) Somewhere in the not-to-distant future a large scale event needs to happen in the city: Impact viewing party on St. Laurent or Ontario st. outside a sports bar during the Street Sale? What are the dates of the street sales? Is there a bar willing to work with us? Can someone find out?
4) A superbanner "Montreal ==> MLS" banner for the Impact home opener. Someone want to take this on?
5) Anyone have connections to Saputos? Is there someone willing to fund these efforts or find funding for banners?
6) Though we might hate them, RPB got a plane to fly the message "Come on you Reds" at the Columbus home opener vs.TFC. Impressive. We should think big.

Some ideas. Who wants to help? Other ideas? If someone would translate this for me, it might be an important first step. Trax, you out there?

Everyone understands the message, don't worry, no need to translate.

We must not overlook the fact that we already have groups, as shown by this site and the Ultras' site. We just need to find a way to voice our support to the MLS franchise . First we need to mov ethe blog out of its no man's land. It sits in the middle of nowhere and needs to be attached to one of the sites. Gaetan linked to the blog from the Stadium construction ics site and the hits jumped. That brings about 35-50 hits per day.

Your ideas are great, we need people to get the ball rolling on the following :

1) the petititon (with the Euroe coming we'll be able to go get tons of signatures, if we go out in bars to watch the games)
2) the viewing party (but we're stuck with the NHL playoffs and nobody cares about soccer)
3) the banner (something we might be able to pull off on the ultras side. However we already have plans for the opener so if someone is willing to contribute with time and money, we're open to that.)

- As for the video, there are too few Impact videos available to get something decent going.
- We're surely not going to go ask Saputo for funding.
- Please forget the RPB and U-Sector. They have nothing to do with us or the subject.

Someone willing to put together an eye catching template for a petition (michka, xdukex?)? Perhaps one person going to watch the Impact-Whitecaps game at Bica's can bring it with them and start the signature gathering process (Mpenza?)? People that sign up should include their e-mail addresses so they can be contacted with updated info on the effort. Anyone know if they will be showing the game at Champs as well? L'ami Francki could get it going it Quebec City, perhaps?

Please edit! We'll need a french version as well. Would someone be willing to host/start the petition (Main de Dieu?). It should be someone in Montreal, imo and I am not.

I think there still may be an important element to gathering physical signatures and collecting e-mail addresses (people are not likely to list their e-mails on petitonsonline...) and it would help spread the word at sports bars and Impact events. Thoughts?
