New pair excites Wave

Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer quickly saw what midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos and forward Eddie Sebrango could bring to the defending indoor champion's lineup this season.

The two players, who once were teammates with the outdoor Montreal Impact, made a positive impression in the Wave's opening scrimmage of training camp. Now they are here to stay, with Sebrango getting a two-year contract and Selaidopoulos being offered an extension on the one year remaining on his deal with the disbanded Cleveland Force.

Both players might be considered steals in the Major Indoor Soccer League's recent dispersal draft - Selaidopoulos was taken in the fourth round, while Sebrango was chosen in the fifth round.

Selaidopoulos, who played against the Wave in the MISL finals last season, will fit nicely into a midfield rotation featuring Angel Rivillo and Marcelo Fontana.

"He's very good on the ball; he works extremely hard off the ball," Tozer said of his new midfielder. "He defends. He's a gritty little guy. He can score goals and create goals."

Sebrango showed his fitness when he posted the top time in the Wave's 5-mile training run on Saturday, finishing in 31 minutes 38 seconds.

Sebrango admitted he was a bit worried about adjusting to the indoor game, which he has not played since 2000.Z

"As soon as I got here, I got used to it," Sebrango said. "Most of the guys have been here for a few years now, so I'm just trying to learn. I watch the guys who are playing my position, and try to do my own things, too."

Sebrango, veteran Todd Dusosky and newcomer James Koehler (a third-round dispersal pick from Kansas City) can play at the target position, along with second-year pro Hewerton.

Dusosky recently had arthroscopic ankle surgery but should be ready for the start of the season, Tozer said.

The Wave will continue its training camp sessions this week and will play an exhibition match against the Chicago Storm at 6 p.m. Saturday at Uihlein Soccer Park.
