Enfin, bonne nuit...

Finalement, j'avais presque vu juste

Well-earned draw for Avs
SCOTT ZERR, EDMONTON SUN
The thrashing that the Edmonton Aviators were expected to suffer at the feet of Montreal Impact came oh-so-close to turning into the biggest shocker in franchise - and maybe A-League - history. In the end, though, the Aviators (0-3-5) are still winless, having to settle for a well-earned and respectable 1-1 OT draw with the league-leading Impact (8-0-2) who entered the final leg of a three-game road trip with a perfect 5-0 road record after wins in Vancouver and Calgary.
Jaime Lopresti drew a yellow card for stripping off his shirt after the goal - the team's first on home soil - but the fiesty display, though dampened shortly afterwards, was worth it.
"We were getting bad results and we were a goal ahead with 10 minutes left, you want to celebrate with your team and you're just happy," said Lopresti, who has pocketed two of the Aviators' three goals - both from the spot.
Chris Lemire drew a penalty kick in the 81st minute as he deftly dangled into the box and Lopresti, one of the club's Chilean imports, made no mistake with a perfect touch to beat keeper Greg Sutton. Down to their last threat, the Impact wove a free kick into a 90th-minute equalizer as substitute Darko Kolic flicked a header past Jose Luis Campi after a well-placed cross by Joel Bailey.
"Most of our team was psychologically very down and we were beating the best team in the league. We were very happy but one little error cost us the game," added Lopresti. "This game should have been ours."
Coming off a tumultuous week that included a 6-0 pasting in Portland and the release of veteran defender Rick Titus, the Aviators appeared to be no match for the Impact who came in having outclassed their opposition to the tune of 18-1 in goal differential.
Although the Impact had the best chance in OT - a deflected drive by Vincello Mouricio that narrowly slipped past the near post - the Aviators hung in by picking their spots to go from cautious to aggressive.
"It's a stepping stone and something you've got to build on," said head coach Ross Ongaro, whose club also gave away a three-point decision by surrendering a late goal in Calgary back on May 15.
"This team is new, it's a team that's had its troubles in the past and we've got over that."
TITUS TO T.O.: Less than a week after being released by the Aviators, former A-League defender of the year Rick Titus is set to join his hometown Toronto Lynx. Titus took in last night's game to get a glimpse of the Impact, who will be the Lynx opponent on Saturday.

Bonsoir!
Good night!
Whoever you are, when did I play with you, in Halifax? What does "la grande joie" mean, sounds like you are saying I am not that good but I guess you have your opinion. Plus I only played for 10 minutes in OT against Les Bleus, due to a nagging injury. Hey maybe players can improve as they mature???? Anyways it would be nice to know who you are for when I come to montreal , maybe go for a beer. Any criticism is good because it can learn you something.

I think that Y is saying that Lemire and yourself are the teams best players. I'll let him clear this out and pay for the beer...

Hi Chris,
According to the impact website, you started the game last Tuesday, didn’t you?
I have my own vocabulary…, so I meant that we played in the same league (ASIA that is) but not for the same team.
I remember you as a good player tough to play against (…ce n’est pas la joie). Of course, the A-league is a notch or two above the ASIA, so I can’t wait so see you play in Montreal.
Just curious… why did you come here on our website? You made a web search for Devlin? Just kidding!
Just for the fun of it and to make sure you’re the real Devlin, simply tell me the first letter of the last name of these 3 players you played with at Dal: Adrian, Tony, and Craig – all excellent players.
Best wishes for the rest of the season…

Hey Y:
Who are you and when did we play together? Adrian Ibbetson, Tony Pignatiello and Craig " match prep" Janc. How did I do i believe i even spelled them right. I work full time at a childrens hospital and when we are slow I check out all the team forum sites and was just curious of what was said about our game. It was a last minute decission to not start because of my ankle, it is just annoying right now.Did you play for a new brunswick team, ie moncton, UNB or Mt A??
Francois, I think you guys have a great team and by the sounds of it you were missing several key players namely Biello, leduc and Ditullio all of whoms names speak for themselves. I think most of them were tired that was along road trip, and to be honest with you I thought they created more quality chances and in most instances didn't test our keeper. Both commodore and Bailey are very fast and strong and hold the ball up exceptionally well and then to bring on the likes of Kolic and Budalic is a great situation to be in. The midfield were good Williams was a little nervous i think just because of his botched trip to edmonton, why he left I do not know. Pizzo and Gervais a great defenders as you all know, yet is gervais a bit of a " pussy " sometimes??? They had a free kick and he came up for it and I marked him and grabbed him right away which he didn't like he told me not to touch him in a few choice words, so I promptly shoved him again, plus he didn't win the header, quite funny actually, still a great player to have. Sutton was never tested. I am sure it will be a different story when we come at the end of August, however by then they should be preparing for the playoffs and may rest alot of players, although many of the reserves are just as good. There is no doubt in my mind that they could very well win it this year as long as they stay healthy and get a bit of luck.
Anyways nice chatting and Y I will leave my phone number for you if you want to meet up in Montreal in August, I am sure if I get your name or see you I will remember you.
All the best wiht Les Bleus
Cheers
Devlin

Chris,
I think you got them right!
Williams came back to Montreal because the Aviators wanted to modify his contract, and since many Impact players got injured he saw the opportunity to play.
I was with the blue eagles from 1991 to 1993. We had a wonderful team with magnificent players such as Africans Louis (league MVP in 1993), Bobby and Mondher. I am pretty sure you still remember them very well as they, I’m sure, drove you crazy. The only problem we had was that we did not have quality forwards equal to the rest of the team. I just wished we had the Huskies’ George K and Peter M (…). Dal, St-M and SFX were great teams too. It was great fun, especially the plane trips to Newfoundland (with the PEI W team) and the Saturday nights at the Cotton club (…kidding…).
For the folks who were born (!), Tony P. played for the Toronto Blizzard in the CSL, a long time ago. Did you play with the clippers? I can’t remember.
I think I have our 1993 game in Halifax on tape; if I find it on time I’ll bring you a copy (should you wish to see it). It ended 1-1 and it was a hard game with nasty tackles.
See Ya!

Merci.
Thanks a lot Chris for your account of the game. A first here on the forum to actually have a player give us his views on a game. I wish some Impact players would take a minute to drop by here on the board and give us some feedback. All the best of luck for the rest of the season and we look forward to see you when you visit Montreal.
Cheers!

Eduardo Sebrango, David Fronimadis, Abraham François and Adam Braz were also missing. That's almost a line-up.Devlin a écrit :I think you guys have a great team and by the sounds of it you were missing several key players namely Biello, leduc and Ditullio all of whoms names speak for themselves.

Well, I believe that Gervais thinks –and rightly so– that he’s not that far from the national team, so I guess he wants every opportunity to shine, especially in the west.
