Rhinos offer job to Calloway

(December 15, 2004) — The Rochester Rhinos are waiting to see if Laurie Calloway will accept their offer to become the team's head coach.

Calloway, a native of England, coached the Syracuse Salty Dogs to the A-League Eastern final last season and also previously coached the San Jose Clash in Major League Soccer.

The Rhinos previously made an offer to John Harkes, former U.S. National Team captain, but the two sides could not agree on a contract and Harkes withdrew his name from consideration.

The other finalist for the Rhinos job was former Dallas Burn head coach Mike Jeffries.

Pat Ercoli, the only coach in Rhinos history, was fired last month after three somewhat disappointing seasons. Ercoli coached the team for nine seasons, winning four titles in his first six years. His overall record was 154-77-18.
