(rire)

Depleted in Puerto Rico
Impact kicks off title defence with a shortage of firepower, injuries to key forwards and veterans in new positions

Kevin Wilson will be sitting on the bench tonight when the Impact opens the 2005 season against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
But you can count on the 28-year-old seeing some action before the game is over.
If the Impact, the defending champion in the United Soccer Leagues First Division, has a weakness, it's at forward. That's why the team reached out for Wilson, a Jamaican who played for the Impact in 1998.
"We need help up front and that's why we picked up Kevin," coach Nick DeSantis said. "We know that he's fit because he has been playing in Jamaica and the question now is how quickly he can adjust to our system.
"It's a little easier for a talented forward like him. He won't start the game, but he'll definitely play. We need him and we're still looking for another striker."
The Impact received some bad news last week when veteran Freddie Commodore aggravated a foot injury during a training session in Montreal.
Commodore, who signed a three-year contract last month, is facing surgery and has been released by the team to free up a spot on the roster for an import.
The shortage of firepower is reflected in the Impact's starting lineup tonight. Eddy Sebrango and Mauro Biello are the forwards and there are questions regarding both players.
Sebrango is a natural striker, but has been nursing a sprained ankle. He has practised hard the past two days and, while he's not 100 per cent, he said yesterday he was close.
Biello has been a striker in the past, but he's more comfortable in the midfield.
"We'll play Mauro out on the side a bit so that he doesn't have to play with his back to the net," DeSantis said.
Wilson? He'll be a substitute at some point in the game and DeSantis expects him to fit in despite the fact he has had only one practice with his new teammates.
"We worked a lot on defensive things today, but I was happy with the way Kevin played," DeSantis said. "He showed us some speed and hustle. He's a veteran who knows how to play the game."
Wilson said he had good memories of his season in Montreal.
"I've always wanted to go back there," said Wilson, who played on defunct A-League teams in New York and Connecticut before returning to Jamaica, where he spent the last season playing for Arnett Gardens in the First Division.
Countryman Lloyd Barker, who is an assistant coach with the Impact, suggested that Wilson could help the team. Barker spent most of last week in Jamaica, arranging for Wilson's transfer.
The rest of the news from the Impact camp was generally good yesterday, although veteran defender Nevio Pizzolitto is questionable for tonight's game. He has been practising with a wrap on his right thigh and might benefit from an extra day of rest.
"He could probably go, but we have some depth in the back and we don't want to take any chances and we'll probably wait," said DeSantis, noting that Pizzolitto probably would play in the team's second game against the Islanders Sunday afternoon.
Sandro Grande, who missed most of Wednesday's practice with sore knees, was back at work and so was defender Mauricio Vincello, who took it easy Wednesday after tweaking his ankle during practice Tuesday.
Tonight's game (8 p.m., CKAC 730) is the first of six road games for the Impact before the home opener against Rochester on May 29. The Impact is in Virginia to play Richmond and Virginia Beach next weekend. The team also has road games May 15 in Toronto and May 21 in Rochester, N.Y.
