Carver fuming over MLS warning

TORONTO -- A frustrating scoreless draw with the visiting Columbus Crew came to boil on Saturday afternoon when John Carver threatened to return to England if the attitude of MLS officials did not change.

Carver pulled no punches during an impassioned post-match conference, where the TFC coach revealed how his antics on the touchline during the last home game were featured in a league-wide DVD.

"I got lambasted by the referee's association for my behaviour at the last home game (New York)," Carver practically shouted. "And everyone was sent a video of my behaviour on the touch line, to all the officials."

Carver was making a point that his behaviour landed him on a league-issued DVD, but during his team's draw against Columbus on Saturday the ugliness of diving by Crew player Guillermo Barros Schelotto went unpunished.

"Today we saw a fellow professional diving all over the park and is anything going to be done about that? I don't know."

The coach's rant was warranted, as Schelotto was ultimately issued a yellow card for diving in the 90th minute, which according to Carver was 83 minutes too late.

"I got my wrist slapped for my aggressive behaviour and yet we have a guy, a professional footballer, who ran across to the linesman within the first seven minutes, in an aggressive manner, and nothing happened.

"Then the whole game continues to play as if the wind was too strong for him."

Although the former Newcastle United manager has only been in charge of Toronto for a few months, it is obvious that the Englishman is passionate about what he does for a living. Carver was quick to point out that if his passion for the game is not a two-way street in North America, then he will pack his bags for home.

"Get me back to England," Carver said of Schelotto's antics and the lack of calls towards it. "I feel that strong about it, I really do. I wouldn't ask one of my players to do that, and if they did, I'd act on it. I'd do something about it."

The Carver rant did not stop there.

"I am a very passionate guy, and I love the game. Apparently they don't want that in the MLS, they don't want passionate people.

"And because of this DVD that went out to the officials, the fourth official was quite an aggressive guy towards me. I felt as if he disrespected me, pointed in my face, stuck his finger in my face. Now if I did that to him, I'd be in trouble, and rightly so."

The finger-pointing by the fourth official, according to Carver, continued into the tunnel at the end of the first half. The coach did not recall the fourth officials exact words, but it left Carver burning inside.

"They want me to sit down in my chair, in the dugout, with my arms folded and my legs crossed, and just be a nice little boy and get a suntan."

"If that is what they want, I'll just get on a plane and fly home again."

C'est bizarre eurosport avait acheter les droits de la MLS mais depuis le debut de la saison aucuns matchs sur eurosport pourtant on a pu voir quelques matchs l'année derniere.

Bah, effet Beckham qui s'est essoufflé bien vite, faut l'avouer, z'ont peut-être revendu les droits ? Mais ils passeront peut-être quelques matchs en juillet pour les gros frustrés de foot qui peuvent pas vivre un mois entier sans foot (pourtant ya la plage et le Tour de France...)...

Le 5-1 encaissé à domicile contre LA lui a coûté son poste.

Sinon j'ai lu l'Equipe mag de samedi dernier, dans un article sur Grégory Coupet ce dernier raconte qu'il aimerait bien jouer en MLS à New York. Ce n'est pas la première fois qu'il parle de son intérêt pour l'Amérique du nord. Il est possible qu'il traverse l'Atlantique dans les prochains mois si son contrat avec Lyon n'est pas renouvelé.
